Children's Literature
Tour |
 |
|
Alice in Wonderland was in real life Alice Liddell,
daughter of the Dean of Christ Church. The stories she inspired
were written by Charles Dodgson, aka Lewis Carroll, a maths tutor
in the college. Christ Church abounds with ‘Alice’ interest,
and more recently some scenes from the first two ‘Harry Potter’
films were shot here. An entrance fee is charged at Christ
Church. Other children’s authors with links to Oxford
include C S Lewis, J R R Tolkien and Philip Pullman. |

American Connections
Tour |
 |
|
Oxford has many academic and cultural links with
the USA. A few Oxford scholars became founders of American states,
and college architecture has been copied in American universities.
Today there are around 1,000 American students at Oxford, many as
Rhodes scholars. Bill Clinton and now his daughter Chelsea are among
the well-known names. |

Literary Tour |
 |
|
Oxford has nurtured a host of distinguished scholars
who have made literary history. These include poets, (some laureates),
novelists, diarists, essayists, detective writers and children’s
writers. See the colleges attended by John Donne, Matthew Arnold,
Dr Johnson, Percy Shelley, Oscar Wilde, William Golding, John le
Carre, Dorothy Sayers, Iris Murdoch, Andrew Motion and a host of
others. |
 |
|
Detective Tour |
 |
|
Oxford has become, for many, the city
of Inspector Morse. Visit the colleges and walk the streets immortalised
in the novels and television programmes. Visit the college where
Dorothy Sayers studied, and which became the inspiration for ‘Gaudy
Night’. |

Art, Architecture and
Stained Glass Tours |
 |
|
Oxford has a wealth of all the above. Examples include
both architecture and stained glass from each of the 13th to 20th
centuries. Many colleges have superb works of art on display, eg
portraits, paintings, sculpture, Pre-Raphaelite tapestries etc.

Religion Tour |

From its medieval Roman Catholic origins, through
the upheaval of the Reformation, to the inspiration of the Tractarian
movement, Oxford has a fascinating religious history. Figures such
as John Wycliffe, William Tyndale, Archbishop Cranmer, John and
Charles Wesley, John Keble and Cardinal Newman are but a few of
those who shaped its heritage. Please discuss your requirements

Individual Speciality
Tours |
 |
|
If you represent a special group and
have a wish for tours on a specific theme please discuss your requirements
with us. |
Please note that a guided tour of Oxford will not include any of the colleges
or buildings that charge an admission fee unless you specifically request
them. At present these include Christ Church, New, Magdalen, Trinity and
Brasenose; their entry fees range from 50p - £4.50 per person.
Please allow plenty of time for your journey as the city and its approach
roads are often congested.
As well as organising guided tours of Oxford, we also arrange outings
to Blenheim Palace, Stratford
and the Cotswolds.
